Phoenix, Arizona Herniated and Bulging Disc Attorney

Herniated disc injuries can seriously and permanently affect any victim’s quality of life. Such injuries often occur when there is traumatic insult to the spine from an automobile accident or other personal injury accident. The stress put on your spinal column in such an accident can cause a piece of the spinal structure (the disk) that separates your back bones or vertebrae, to become displaced. There are two general types of spinal disc problems identified by physicians:

  • Pinched Nerve – When a patient has a symptomatic herniated disc, the disc itself is not painful, but rather the material that is leaking out of the inside of the disc is pinching, compressing or irritating a nearby nerve. This type of pathology produces pain called radicular pain, sometimes also referred to as nerve root pain. This, in turn, can lead to pain that may radiate to other parts of the body. Examples are pain from the low back, which runs down the leg or pain from the neck down which runs down the arms. Leg pain from a pinched nerve is usually called sciatica.
  • Disc Pain – When a patient has symptomatic degenerative disc (one that causes low back pain and/or leg pain), it is the disc space itself that is painful and the source of pain. This type of pain is typically called axial pain or in some cases degenerative disc disease.

Either of these two conditions can occur in the cervical (neck), thoracic (mid-back) or lumbar (lower back) regions. Such conditions are most common in the lower back because it is what bears the most force and twisting movements on a day-to-day basis. For additional information read our Back Injury Statistics and Pertinent Facts page.

For many people who suffer a herniated disc injury, returning to “normal” is very difficult. There can be chronic pain, loss of enjoyment of life, significant loss of time from work, inability to physically function in the customary manner, and at times psychological difficulties which can develop from the injury. Corrective surgical procedures may or may not render relief. We are experienced in prosecuting claims to recover damages for herniated disc injuries. We can also recommend top-notch physicians, many of whom are board certified, who can help to diagnose your condition and recommend the best treatment. Often times they will agree to work on a lien.
